Krzysztof
Jabłonski after his success at the Eleventh International Chopin
Competition in Warsaw in 1985 (III prize) was considered to be the
greatest talent among young Polish pianists after Krystian Zimerman.
Today he is an artist well known in the world, counted among the best
most active Polish pianists.
He was born in 1965 in Wroclaw and started the piano when he was six
years old. For twelve years until finishing the secondary music school
in Wroclaw, his teacher was Professor Janina Butor. When he was fifteen
years old , he was the youngest competitor to win the international
piano competition Premio Dino Ciani in Milano. Nikita Magaloff, who was
on the jury of the competition, invited him to take part in his master
courses in Geneva. Krzysztof Jablonski participated in them twice, in
1981 and 1982. As a student of a secondary school he took part in the
Festival of Polish Piano Playing in Slupsk. In the years 1983-1986 he
studied at the Music Academy in Katowice with Professor Andrzej
Jasinski. His third prize at the Chopin Competition in Warsaw was a
highlight in his career and at the same time the beginning of a series
of further prizes at competitions: in 1988 – first award and prize for
the best performance of a piece by Chopin at the Second International
Competition at Palm Beach, first prize at the Tenth International Rina
Sala Gallo Competition in Mons and second prize at the International
Competition GPA in Dublin, in 1989 – gold medal and third prize at the
sixth International Arthur Rubinstein Competition in Tel-Aviv, in 1992
– special Jorge Bolet prize at the International Competition of the
Walter Naumburg Foundations in New York and second prize at the
International Esther Honens Competition in Calgary.
Krzysztof Jablonski has appeared in most countries in Europe and in
many countries in the world. He appeared as a soloist with numerous
eminent orchestras. Each year he performs about fifty concertos(?) and
recitals. In February 1998 on the occasion of anniversary celebrations
of European Radio Union he took part in a performance with Sinfonia
Varsovia under Jan Krenz, broadcast live by 23 radio networks in
Europe.
He has fifteen CDs to his name, recorded in Poland, Germany or Japan.
Some of them have appeard also as digital video disks, video tapes or
cassettes. In 1998, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Chopin’s
death, he recorded for disk complete etudes, preludes and impromptus on
the basis of the National Edition of Chopin’s Works edited by Professor
Jan Ekier.
Since 1994 Krzysztof Jablonski has been also teaching and since 1997 he
has his piano class in the Music Academy in Katowice. He also is
invited to juries of international piano competitions and teaches at
master courses in Poland and abroad.
