"Proteois", project initiated at  CEMA Center for Experimental Media Art / Srishti College of Art, Design and Technology in cooperation with National Center for Biological Sciences in Bangalore, India, in summer 2009. The title” Proteois”, the Greek origin of the world “protein” recalls the tradition of early Greek philosophy which ontological questions scrutinised the substance of the world. The project “Proteois” is a continuation of my earlier work “Life Matters” realized with the support of  the Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in New Delhi , India .

“Space is  the way of existence of life, and life is the way of existence of space". - these words by stefan Semotiuk became a motto of the project. (Stefan Semotiuk „Filozoficzne Aspekty Przestrzeni” w „Przestrzeń w nauce współczesnej (Philosophical Aspects of Space” in „Space in contemporary science”), published by UMCS, Lublin , 1998)

One of inspirations of the project is the scientific search for the shape of our Universe and its dimensions. The string theory introduced peculiar geometrical forms called “Calabi-Yau manifolds” into our imagination. They contain convolute dimensions inaccessible to our 3-dimensional perception. If we accept the existence of these form we have to acknowledge that we alone may contain hidden dimensions and encompass many universes. This course of reasoning led me to adopt a protein structure as a model of our universe(s). The protein molecule called the basic "brick of life", is made of convolution of a polypeptide chain. It is highly complex, dynamic and never repeated. Treated by X-rays in turn, it reveals the arrangement of atoms that can be mistaken for a map of the cosmic space.Proteois” in Greek means that what is first, basic, in front. Nothing strange that the core of this word we find both in the name of an elementar particle - proton and in protein, the molecule responsible for all processes in  living cells.

“Proteois embraces films and video animations as well as interactive installations. Films "Hidden Dimension" and  “Water” as well as the interactive installation "Molecule" belong of this project.

"Proteois-resume" is an interactive, multi-channel video piece which structure is based on a labyrinth of molecular bonds and interconnections. This intricate structure serves the poetic journey through the matter of time and space, provoking reflections on the mystery of life that we are part of. Proteois” is the work in progress. Its evolving construction is based on several films designed as loops or bridges. These films are interconnected allowing for creating individual paths and ways of experience.
