In
BOOK AND WHAT NEXT 5 was international exhibition “ALPHABET”.
In its general assumption, the “ALPHABET” exhibition refers
to the phenomenon of the alphabet, a logical and practical
arrangement of letters, mostly from a to z, which in our cultural
circle has for centuries served as the basis for the process
of recording human thoughts. The artists invited to participate
have been “obliged” to present works whose starting point are
letters building the alphabet notation. Many of them have been
working for years with “letter” or “poetic” matter, which has
been fundamental for their creative expression. The exhibition
presents a wide-ranging approach to this subject-matter and
works are articulated in all kinds of artistic media, from
a recording /printout/ of a work on a sheet of paper, a spatial
form, a video film to computer -generated realizations. The
“ALPHABET” presents works by, on the one hand, precursors of
that art - Emmett Williams (concrete poetry) and Bernard Heidsieck
(sound poetry) and, on the other, artists of the so-called middle generation - Joanna Adamczewska, Ann
Noël, Jarosław Kozłowski, Sef Peeters, Jürgen O. Olbrich, Robert
Szczerbowski, Tomasz Wilmański - for whom the problems of art
connected with word and letter arrangement are a significant
element of artistic pursuits. There are also artists of the
younger generation, who treat art referring to semantics and
linguistics in a new and creative way - Magorzata Gryglicka,
Joanna Hoffmann, Artur Klinaú, Adam Witkowski |
